Vaan had signed up for a tournament. It was a good change to test his skills again. His last fight left Vaan feeling confused and filled with doubt but today Vaan wasn't going to worry about that. He was focusing on winning. Vaan and his command wolf made their way to an elevator type device that brought them into the arena. "Alright Fenrir, this time we won't be so pathetic" Vaan said. He was confident in his abilities now,
Vaan looked around and waited for his opponent to show. While waiting Vaan went over strategies and plans in his mind. He didn't want to be caught unguarded like last time. Vaan heard the other elevator open and turned to see who it was. It was the enemy but a big cloud of smoke prevented Vaan from seeing the enemy zoid. Vaan waited until the dust cleared to see his opponent. Hopefully this would be a great fight.

Shadow smirked to himself as he stepped into the arena. Though it wasn't anything compared to the thrill and danger of an unsanctioned battle like back in Backdraft, the Brawl tournament was still a savage tournament. No weapons, only the pilots and the zoids in their most primal forms. As he sat in his Lightning Saix he watched in amusement as a familiar capsule dropped from the sky.
After a minute or so, the famous Judge Capsule opened and the machine judge began its customary speech. The field of this stadium has become a designated Zoid Battle Field and is now restricted! Only competitors and personnel have authorized entry! Danger all others must leave the area at once! Area scanned! Battle Field set up! Vaan Stone versus Shadow Zeranion. Battle mode 0240. Ready! Fight!.
With the start of the match and the dust cloud created by the judge capsule settled, Shadow kicked the Lightning Saix's speed to the max and took off like a bullet slightly to the left side of the opposing command wolf. As he passed by he lifted the Saix's front left claw and attempted to scratch the side of the wolf's front left leg as he ran past it at the Saix's top speed.

Vaan watched as the dust settled and his enemy appeared it was a lightning saix. Vaan knew the statistics of the void but not the pilot which would make this battle harder. Luckily a lightning saix is somewhat easy to predict, especially in a no weapons match. Vaan saw the judge capsule fall and got ready to fight. The signal was given and the lightning saix was off like a bullet.
The zoid came closer to Vaan at a remarkable speed. One thing Vaan knew pilots replied on was reflexes, which he had in spades. Vaan times his movements to match the lightning saix's moves. When the claw came towards Vaan he had Fenrir jump and try to bite the lightning saix on the neck. This is where a power coupling is, take out the power coupling and the game is over. However Vaan didn't believe it would be this easy. He carefully watched each of the lightning saix's movements just waiting for a chance to pounce.

Seeing his opponent jump to the side, Shadow was mildly disappointed with such a rudimentary strategy. Jumping to the side and attacking an enemy as they passed, was the most commonly used ways to counter run by attacks in the unsanctioned battles, and seeing his opponent use such a basic strategy made him frown. Though he could do the basic and accepted tactic of jump away himself, Shadow decided to show his opponent how his experience with the Backdraft forced him to think on his feet and throw away such common ideas.
Taking the left paw that he'd been intending to scratch the side of the command wolf with, Shadow instead jammed the claw into the stadium floor. At the same time, he had the rear legs push sideways to the left and his front right paw pushing back, sending the Saix into a spin around the planted leg. This motion not only allowed the Saix's neck to spin away from the command wolf's jaws, but actually allowed the Saix to use its built up momentum to spin and smash it's body into the unprepared command wolf. While the Saix's body prepared for the impact and pointed its clawed rear legs towards the command wolf the momentum of the spin ensured that the force would be a forceful one, the planted left paw leaving gashes in the stadium flooring as the zoid spun.

The lightning saix began moving and Vaan watched it carefully. The lightning saix planted it's front left leg into the stadium floor and started spinning. Vaan had seen this trick performed before thought he had a good plan to avoid it. Vaan had Fenrir back up a few steps and then jump as high as it could and did a front flip over the lightning saix. This was a trick Vaan had learned through a lot of hard training during his time as a mercenary. Vaan did get hit but not as bad as it could've been. Once on the ground Vaan spun quickly so he was facing the lightning saix and aimed a slash at the side of the opposing zoid.

To say Shadow was surprised would have been putting it lightly. His opponent's reaction times were amazing. Backing up a few steps before jumping when his Lightning Saix was almost on top of it already? When he saw the command wolf go into a flip however, his thoughts changed to incredulous. To do a maneuver like that required skill easily S-Clas, if not higher. He'd never seen any zoid do a flip before let alone a mediocre zoid like a command wolf.
He was so shocked by this that he didn't even really register that he'd still landed a hit on the command wolf. Not the major one he'd been aiming for, but a decent hit nonetheless. As such he didn't see the slash until it was almost too late. He quickly pushed the controls to get the lightning saix moving since his rear end was facing his opponent and quickly dashed away. However, he was a tad late as the hastily done slash smashed into the Saix's ropey tail.
Waiting near the edge of the arena a ways away from the Command Wolf, many thoughts were running through his head. 'Who the hell is this guy? Those maneuvers were on a completely different level from anything I've ever seen... And putting that command wolf into a FLIP!? I don't know anyone that could do that... As these thoughts ran through his head, Shadow carefully watched his opponent. Eventually he came to a decision. 'I'll have to treat this guy like a Backdraft elite. It doesn't matter whether those maneuvers were his real skill, a fluke, or an indication of his potential. If I don't fight like a TRUE Backdraft and treat this as a life or death battle I'll stand no chance.'
With this resolution, Shadow entered into his Apathy State. From now on he'd show absolutely no emotion and would go for the quickest most efficient way to end the battle, even if it was questionable by ZBC rules. So far as his mind was concerned he was up against a pilot on the level of a top Backdraft Veteran. Somene whose abilities matched and perhaps passed that of even Stoller. Cautiously,he watched from the lightning saix and waited, analyzing the movements of his enemy. As he did this though, he posed a single question to his opponent. "What is your name pilot., his tone emotionless and cold.

Vaan smiled as his trick payed off. While still taking damage it wasn't major damage. The command wolf skidded a bit on the landing and turned to look at the lightning saix. Vaan knew he probably wouldn't be able to pull that trick off again, at least not with the command wolf. Still Vaan had other tricks up his sleeve and just had to wait for the right moment to pull them off.
Vaan took a look at the lightning saix and saw he had only hit it's tail not it's side where had had been aiming. Well that was to be expected, Vaan kinda rushed the attack. The lightning saix dashed away from Vaan and he cursed under his breath. He hated the lightning saix's speed, his command wolf couldn't catch up to that speed. Vaan had to hit the enemy zoid to win but how can he hit what he can't catch? Oh well, it looks like another plan was necessary to fight this particular opponent.
Vaan was impressed with his opponent's piloting skills. He hadn't met anybody with these skills in a long time. It brought back memories, days of working in the military and being a mercenary. Vaan had fought against a lot of different opponents, learning new styles of combat and new strategies. This pilot deserved respect, a lot of respect.
"My name? You should've heard the judge say that mister Shadow Zeranion. My name is Vaan Stone" Vaan said coldly. He was positive his opponent hadn't heard of him, not a lot of people had despite his reputation in the military and as a mercenary. Vaan watched the lightning saix carefully, trying to judge and predicts it's next move. Vaan prepared for a counter attack and waited for the lightning saix. Vaan paced a little so he could move quickly when he needed to counter. This fight was turning out to be very interesting.

Shadow's apathetic mind was going through everything about his opponent, but was coming up with very few tactics he could use. His opponent was intelligent. Intelligent enough to know that Shadow wouldn't try the same tactic twice and that limited his options severely. Vaguely, he remembered Stoller speaking what seemed like eternity ago about military pilots he respected. As such Vaan Stone's name suddenly connected and he understood just what kind of pilot Vaan was. Had he not been in his apathetic state, Shadow would have been either invigorated or shaken by this realization, but instead he merely filed away the information and mentally upped his threat level.
If his opponent really was on Stoller's respect list then he held a great deal of abilities and potential. As such, he wouldn't go rushing in recklessly, and simply waited to see if his opponent would take the offensive. For the time being he didn't want to begin another engagement with the command wolf now that the element of surprise was more or less gone.

Vaan checked his command wolfs computer to check on the condition of his zoid. Minimal damage had been taken but otherwise everything was fine. Vaan thought for a moment after thinking about this fight. The movement's seemed vaguely familiar yet Vaan couldn't place it. "You're a good pilot Shadow, tell me who did you learn from" Vaan asked. The piloting was familiar somehow but Vaan couldn't remember why and it was bugging him crazy.
Vaan was not stupid enough to make the first move. That would be suicide in this kind of battle. Vaan instead just kept his distance and paced a bit waiting for the lightning saix to attack. Vaan patiently waited for the enemy zoid to attack. "To scared to attack" Vaan asked calmly. He was trying to provoke Shadow into attacking, hopefully it would work.

Had he not dropped his emotions, Shadow would probably be getting impatient or annoyed by his opponent's lack of action. In his apathetic state however, he merely acknowledged that neither combatant was willing to attack first and that for the moment they would remain at a stalemate.
Hearing this question, Shadow mentally weighed the pros and cons of giving this information to an opponent, instead of giving a real answer he instead replied, "I do not believe my sensei is well liked in the ZBC so I will refrain from answering you." He began having the Saix walk slowly around the wolf, like a cat circling its prey. He then heard another comment by his opponent,
Rather than getting angered like his opponent seemed to want, Shadow calmly responded, "No, I merely have observed your skills and am unsure of the intelligence in attacking a pilot skilled enough to put a zoid, let alone a command wolf into a flip."

Vaan remained calm and watched his opponent carefully. This stalemate would probably keep going for a while. He gripped the controls tightly waiting for a single movement from his opponent. Vaan could tell shadow was good. The movements of shadow seemed familiar but Vaan couldn't place the style.
"A pilot, who's style I should know, and not liked by the ZBC...that narrows it down a bit" Vaan thought as he circled the lightning saix. This was killing Vaan but he tried to keep calm. "What team are you from" Vaan asked. Vaan was too curious and just decided to ask questions, besides it was better than saying nothing. Shadow said something and Vaan smiled. "This is no mere command wolf, I built it myself" Vaan said smiling.

Shadow continued to walk around the command wolf as he patiently watched his opponent. It was battles like this that had forced Shadow to learn how to shut down his emotions. Emotions caused pilots to do stupid things, and in Backdraft's unsanctioned battles they had nearly killed him several times. By now, he had walked to the left side of the stationary command wolf, but was still at least a good 4 zoid lengths away.
Hearing this question, Shadow felt no problems with telling him this as his opponent could easily look the information up himself. "Team SNAFU." Had he not been in such an apathetic state of mind he probably would have cracked a smile at the name of his chaotic team.

Vaan stored that piece of information away in his brain. While moving in the opposite direction of the lightning saix Vaan decided to ask one more question. "One more question, where'd you get that lightning saix" Vaan asked. He was sure there was only one place to get a lightning saix like the one Shadow was piloting. He just needed Shadow to confirm it.
Staying four zoid lengths away Vaan kept circling the lightning saix. He was determined not to make the first move here. Vaan carefully watched his opponent. The way things were going this stalemate could last for a while.

The stalemate continued as Shadow continued to circle the Command Wolf in a counter clockwise direction. The two zoids eyed each other cautiously, like to predators in the wild. He then heard his opponent speak again.
Shadow didn't let himself drop his focus and apathetically replied, "I got it from my sensei."
(OOC: We really need to find a way to break this stalemate, and we're both stubborn about this. Any ideas on how to break it?)

Vaan watched the lightning saix carefully and waited to see what move he would make. Vaan heard shadow's answer and it shocked him. There was only one piece missing to this puzzle. "After the fight please tell me who gave you that lightning saix" Vaan said. He was prepared for Shadow's next attack. Vaan prepared a counter attack in his head to just about anything this zoid could throw at him.
