It seemed as though Caleb had moved into a nearby neighborhood, great, now he would try to bother him every chance he got. He didn't particularly care for loud and cheery people often, but it was a nice change of pace to be hanging around Caleb, he had to admit.
As Caleb gazed at the ice cream, Dmitri began to wonder about what flavor he wanted, simply because the other boy looked as if he would persistently ask to eat some. Sparing himself the torture of hearing Caleb moan and groan, he began to peruse the assortment of ice cream flavors they had. Nothing had really caught his eye until, yes, that was it. That was the perfect flavor! Right in front of his eyes. Expressionless as he kept his face, no one could ever tell that he was vaguely interested in tasting the frozen treat nor could they see that he was generally in a good mood.
"I'll take two scoops of that...please." Dmitri's melancholy voice escaped his throat, his right index finger pointing to the flavor he wanted. The woman stared at him for a moment and paused before even scooping the ice cream out.
"Are you sure? It's one of our most unpopular flavors."
"Yes. It'll be fine..." He reassured her. Despite his plain, dull, lackluster appearance and attitude, Dmitri enjoyed the weirder side of cuisine, the strange and unusual. Stood straight and firm, yet his body leaned off to the side a bit, very relaxed, yet serious body language. It was rare that he'd meet anyone who would approach him who wouldn't think that he was strange and/or scary.
Dmitri leaned down next to Caleb, his mouth near his ear and said, "What kind are you going to get." The way that his tone of voice was made it the question seemed more like a statement rather than a question. It was just the odd, monotone voice that he had, quite strange indeed. A little uncomfortable about how close he got to Caleb, he backed off and began licking his ice cream, deciding whether or not he liked it. All this while waiting for Caleb's response.

He seemed a little bit surprised that Dmitri had gotten so close, but smiled nonetheless - it was nice that Dmitri was a little more comfortable than he had been before. He leaned over the glass, looking at the various labels and colors. "Nrrr. I don't know! There's so many and they all look so--" He paused, after a second, and nodded. "Mint chocolate chip, please!" He said, cheerfully, looking to the woman behind the counter.
That was his favorite, so when he finally found it, it was no surprise that he chose that one. After accepting the cone, he all but cheered - excitement was evident. He really wasn't surprised, though, when he finally noted Dmitri's flavor. He had to suppress a chuckle, though, simply so it wouldn't be rude. As after the choice was made, he found it more or less fitting with his personality.
He absolutely loved the flavor that now assaulted his mouth, taking a deep breath of excited noise. "It's good." He grinned. "How'bout yours?" He asked, quietly.

(sorry it's short, I'm just stressed)
Dmitri took a couple more licks before staring blankly at the other boy's face. The ice cream wasn't amazing, but it wasn't necessarily bad either. The only thing that Dmitri was drawn to was the coldness of the ice cream, other than that, nothing about the dessert item was going to wow him.
"It's fine. It's cream cheese flavor..."
Dmitri pulled out a single bill from his wallet, a ten, and handed it to the woman at the counter. It was his treat after all, well, his payment to shut the kid up. He looked at the green ice cream with all the chunks of chocolate in it. Dmitri didn't much like sweet things nor did he like minty things either, bold flavors weren't all that appealing to him.
"I guess.. if you like that kind. I would've taken you for more of a...rocky road.." Dmitri had said in reply to the energetic boy. Sitting down at the counter, the young mercenary decided to relax his guard, but only for the moment. Considering how he was always tense, it was really a change of pace.
He looked over at Caleb once more, admiring the innocent look that was subtly glued to his face. It almost reminded him of himself, long ago. He should be like that, that's how normal kids his age acted, the thing is that he wasn't normal and never would be.

"Rocky road? No way! Way too chocolate and lots of nuts and things that crunch." He made a face - not the most exciting of treats, as far as he was concerned. Crunch was not something he liked, and so he typically avoided it when he had the option. Morning cereal was much the same problem with him - he had to make eggs or dumplings or something. But the way the mint made the little chocolate crispies just perfect...
He shivered a little bit - his ice cream was halfway gone already. "My favorite part of the ice cream is how it makes you cold on the inside... Not creepy cold, but like, cold." He said, as he slipped up into the chair next to Dmitri. "Cream cheese?" He asked, after a second, looking thoughtful. "I'll have to try that next time 'cause... I like regular cream cheese..." Frozen, though, might have a bit of a weird sort of taste.
He looked back to Dmitri, who was apparently somewhat studious as far as Caleb himself was concerned. It made him pause in his own assault of the ice cream - and wonder. "Are you okay? You seem so serious. This is supposed to be fun." He grinned, lightheartedly.

Cold in the inside, eh? Dmitri had thought to himself for a quick minute or so, reflecting as that is what he does most and he does it quite well. With his introvert personality, Dmitri rarely expresses his emotions, thoughts or feelings outwardly, if at all. But it seemed that Caleb loved to talk about how things make him feel or how things seem in his opinion. How could he be so open and carefree? Maybe that's what ate at him whenever he thought of the guy. It was very likely that Caleb was the sort of person who he wished he was like, at least in some aspects, not all.
"Yeah, I guess you should try it..it'll be kind of...boring..to you." Dmitri admitted to the boy. He quickly looked away from Caleb's direction, unable to look at him with a straight face, he was just too smiley. Once he had asked him that dreadful question, he didn't know what exactly to say.
"Fun.." The truth was that he didn't know how to have fun anymore. As a matter fact, fun was nothing more than an obscure word in his vocabulary at this point. Turning to face Caleb, his sullen faced contrasted with Caleb's, they were polar opposites. If only he could become more like him, more happy, more carefree, more able to let his true heart be seen...
Dmitri's face twisted in a half-smile, half-grimace, something that only a novice at smiling could ever manage. It was sincere, yet to anyone else, it would look like he was in some kind of odd pain or something similar. "I think I am having fun..with you."

It took Caleb a second to wrap his mind around the idea that Dmitri seemed to have very little to do with 'fun'. Either intentionally or not, being a social person, or even just being friendly seemed difficult for the other person... and for a second, that rendered Caleb incapable of smiling. He seemed a little disheartened. Sympathetic, even. He lived his life in a very strange manner - a positive outlook on most things. It was why he could feel so happy in spite of his missing father.
A slight tilt of his head, and that smile broke across his face once more. It was really nice - to hear that he was having fun. Even though his smile was somewhat painful to look at, Caleb was okay with the idea of someone having a difficult time internally accepting something different. That wasn't a big problem as far as he was concerned - but the fact that Dmitri was having such a hard time made him feel a little bad for him, and he was determined to fix this.
"Well, I'm glad. Like I said, we're friends, even if you have a hard time with the idea. You can probably guess I'm a bit difficult to run off." He said, before leaning back, and peering at him. After a second, he grinned, and offered his cone to Dmitri. "Wanna try? I haven't licked that side yet." He said, revealing his own very lopsided, awkward way of eating ice cream.
Despite the fact that he knew it usually resulted in a mess on the floor, he always ate his ice cream this way.

"Friends...Yes, we are." Dmitri's face lit up a couple shades lighter than normal and then into a pink hue, it seemed as though he was blushing. With simple control of his emotions, he was able to quell such thoughts, but only for the moment.
An ice cone was waved in front of his face, the odd kind with the green color and the chocolate chips. What was it called again? Mint chocolate chip. It sounded like an odd combination, yet since he was offered it, how could he ever say no? Well, for one thing, it was one the same cone that Caleb had just licked off of. Even though he hadn't licked off that side, it was the principle. After Dmitri had licked the cone in that area, would Caleb seriously finish the rest, eating behind Dmitri as if they were really good friends or perhaps more than that? The only people he had ever seen eat behind one another were...lovers.
As he leaned in, he blushed, again he had lost control of his emotions. What exactly was going on with him? He couldn't act with the prose that he was known for, at least not in his presence. He licked the cone very discretely, making sure not to take too much off the top.
"It's okay.." Dmitri said, backing away, his eyes diverting from Caleb, embarrassed or confused, either way he was blushing a bit. "I licked mine everywhere...I would offer...but"

It made him smile, a full-fledged smile. The blush itself was adorable, and it made him happy to see that Dmitri was at least experiencing something. Not the fact that he felt embarrassed, but the fact that he felt something 'positive'. Caleb couldn't help himself - Dmitri admitted he was a friend, as well! All in all, today was a good day. New knife, free ice cream, and a friend who might have turned out to be an enemy later.
Still, he couldn't help himself. He leaned forward, and his tongue darted forward to draw a little line across the edge of the ice cream section of Dmitri's ice cream cone. He couldn't help himself - it was just another way to step forward, and hope Dmitri didn't step back. "It does taste different. But different is good, most of the time." He said, with a dazzling little smile, even though he hadn't moved away from him yet.
Pulling back so he was in only his chair, at that point, he licked happily at his own cone. Cream Cheese was not a flavor he'd get often, but certainly, he'd be excited to have it every now and again. "And see, our first memory of each other's gonna be a good one. 'Cause Ice cream makes everything a little better." He said, even though his teeth had begun to chatter. Air conditioning on the outside and ice cream on the inside made him nice and cold.

Different...that meant that it tasted odd or weird, something that Caleb wouldn't get with his own money, that was obvious. Dmitri had weird taste, what more could be said? Bland, boring, yet somehow he ended up being dynamic in some way. It was unexplainable to him or to the other who kept on being drawn to him, they were attracted to him like a light shinning in the distance, drawing in the moths. Knowing that the light was unapproachable and dangerous, the moths still approached.... Dmitri was the light and Caleb was the moth....or was it the other way around?
Every time Caleb smiled it made Dmitri want to do the same, why was he getting so close to him, why did it feel so good to be by his side? The weren't comrades nor were they really good friends. In fact, they just had met, yet Caleb kept treating him as if they were old friends from long ago. Maybe that's how Caleb liked to come off, a kindred spirit who could connect with anyone who was willing. But why him? Why him?
He observed Caleb, noticing how he had been shaking and twitching, cold perhaps? He took off his jacket and swung it around him, accidentally embracing him as he slipped it over his shoulders. Dmitri looked at his kind eyes, they were so kind and his lips...
Before he knew it, his lips had collided with Caleb's. They were cool, yet somewhat moist, not overly wet or voluptuous, easy to kiss. His breath was minty fresh, from the ice cream yet the taste of chocolate resided on the very tip of his tongue. It felt good to be so close to someone, so very... good. Dmitri pulled back, exhaling once, the condensation of his breath could be seen because it had been so cool inside his mouth.
With a quick glance to Caleb, he turned around and began to storm off. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean..to.." The door closed behind him, a little bell chiming as he left. The people were probably looking but that wasn't the worst part. He had kissed a boy. A BOY! It wasn't normal...it wasn't who he was or so he thought. Poor Caleb...he probably didn't even see it coming...

It was strange: His breath felt as though it had been sabotaged. It left, without his consent, or rhyme, or reason. For just that instance, his fire all but extinguished. It was the most amazing feeling in his existence. All of his worries, all of his excitement. Everything just sort of... slipped away. There was a moment where his shivering stopped - the coat on his shoulders having absolutely nothing to do with it.
Then, as if it were stolen away from him by... well... him... it was as if the world forced itself back into his possession. His breath came back in force, and his eyes, which had been decidedly closed after the initial touch, were forced open once more, and the ideas of colors and sounds and everything slipped into his consciousness again. It was a rush of things he would have rather avoided - but still, as they came, he accepted them. Reality set back in, and it was not a favorite thing.
The now-cooled breath touched his cheek, and he looked at Dmitri - lost in confusion for a moment. He'd never been left like that before, and he was genuinely blushing a clear, red. Caleb looked at him, wondering why the connection had vanished.
Dmitri looked... panicked. The bell was ringing before he even had a chance to react - he couldn't bring himself to call him back.
No, that seemed a little wrong. He dropped the cone on the table, heedless of the mess he was making. For the second time in so many seconds, the bell rang, and he had a hand on Dmitri's shoulder. "Stop." He said, tugging slightly. He could fight if Dmitri didn't want to stop. Then again, he slipped around in front of him.
"It was nice." He stood there, in front of him, hands curled in to little fists. Not defensive, persay, more, worried what Dmitri might say. He leaned forward, and tried to let whatever fire there'd been momentarily try to ignite once more, to let their lips dance across Dmitri's.
The cold fire was, if nothing else, enticing. To him. He liked the feel, the absolute... rush of it.
With his lips still brushing Dmitri's, he said, softly. "You don't have to run away if you don't want to. Do what you want to do."

He tried to get away, steal off into the night like a cat burglar or a sniper after taking dealing the killing blow to his unsuspecting target. What exactly had he been running from? The possibility of liking someone beyond the point of a simple acquaintance or a friend? Dmitri's body seemed to get heavy, had the high from the kiss subsided already? When their lips met, his body had felt like it had literally lifted off the ground, as if they were the only two people there. Soaring among the clouds, both of their hearts becoming one or something of the like. Dmitri couldn't describe the feeling very well, not even nearly as well as an adult who had experienced these things before would. After all he was still a kid, but even as young and naive as he was, the young mercenary knew that two boys kissing was abnormal.
His heart sank, to a low or rather where it always was. Loneliness. The pervasive thought of such a low feeling returned once more, becoming the only true friend he had. Why did he do such a thing? Cool, cautious, calm, deviating from such traits was to become a new person. Was he changing by simply meeting a boy who he had been infatuated with momentarily?
A boy...why did Caleb have to be boy? Why couldn't he have been a girl? Why coul- A hand on his shoulder, so soft, so inviting, it was pleasing and warmed his soul to the core. He didn't even have to turn around, well that and the boy had already jumped in front of him. Apparently he hadn't even heard him say stop...nor did he...
"I don't know what I want..." The fact of the matter was that last statement was entirely false. He knew exactly what he wanted, not just what he wanted in general, but what he wanted out of Caleb. Dmitri tried to fight it, but the cute look in Caleb's eyes just egged him on, he utterly hated it. Drawn in again it seemed....as he pulled back from the tender kiss he had returned to Caleb.
"...I'm sorry for earlier." Dmitri whispered to Caleb. "I'm not sure how I feel..."

He inhaled Dmitri's scent, and he rather enjoyed it. After a moment of pure hesitation, where he thought Dmitri might very well swing on him, or something just as forceful and dangerous - he was glad to feel the press of lips against his own. It was a gentle, nervous thing, full of sparks - the taste of mint from his own lips, given back to him like the quietest of gifts.
It made him smile - a smaller smile, not so robust with energy, almost like a little tap that had been turned, releasing something nice down his throat, to his heart. There was a little thudding there, that he couldn't quite place, nor did he want to. It told him nothing and everything and made the nicest little bit of cold.
Cold fire.
The corner of his lips remained upward. "I never know what I'm feeling. It's no problem if you don't get it when something..." His voice tapered off - he couldn't come up with an appropriate explanation. He was more or less lost in the moment. The cool, clean, feeling was not clear at all - it didn't betray anything that he could use to understand it, either.
"But it's... nice. I like it. Like when you said... friends." At this point, he was only vaguely aware of the people that were glancing at them - him, wearing his coat, and Dmitri, wrapped in his arms. Like a miniature romance, all wrapped in each other. It was almost as if nothing he'd ever done before mattered. He wasn't in trouble, but he felt something not unlike guilt.
"I'm sorry... if this is strange. I don't want to make you feel... bad." He said, finally looking to his eyes, unable to keep his gaze at a distance any more. "Did I?" He had to look in his eyes. Try to read him, understand him.
Tactics didn't work here.

What was he doing? Exactly what his heart told him to do. It was glazed over with ice and stone, hard and cold, yet it was beginning to warm up from the very heat of their passion. Similar to being with a vampire, the very sorrow was being sucked out of him, each kiss took his breath away along with the sorrow that was embedded into his soul. Was this love? Or nothing more than a way to cope with his feelings? The repressed emotions he had been holding in for so long had been longing to escape, the need for affection, the need to be touched, the very need to be close to someone who accept for who he was.
Despite what he had seen as his ideal lover, there was someone before him who made him feel like no other. And his name was Caleb.
"Friends..." Dmitri vaguely recalled the event that had only happened only minutes beforehand, the only thing he could think of was touching those cute lips of his once more with his own. Wrestling up his thoughts and his sensibility, Dmitri was able to stop these primal urges of attacking Caleb's face with his lips and his body with his eager hands.
"I've never done anything like..that before..." Dmitri stood right up on Caleb, no room between the two, nor was there going to be. They were as physically close as possible. Dmitri was bit shorter than his "friend", yet they seemed even in every aspect. Averting his eyes from Caleb's gaze, he began to look at the others, the passersby looking at the two with very contemptuous eyes. It no longer matter, he was a renown mercenary in the area, of course this would hurt his reputation. What he had was special...and it was right in front of him.
"It...felt...I liked it." Hesitation took over, but only for a moment. Now it was time for the blunt side of his personality to take over for a moment. "You only wanted to be ...friends?"

It was as though Dmitri wasn't sure what Caleb's intentions were. Then again, if he had any idea, he'd be a lot further along than Caleb was. Caleb almost never had any ideas as to what really went on, as far as his emotions were concerned. That was why he was capable of being so happy, most of the time. Even when he was in a quiet mode of thought.
His tongue glided along the backs of his teeth, thoughtfully. It seemed as though both Caleb and Dmitri were in the same situation. They both seemed to take great enjoyment in being near each other, and an even greater enjoyment in locking lips. "I liked it too." He replied, keeping his voice more or less even. Slipping his hands into his back pockets, he took a step back.
A sneaky-looking grin took over his lips, as he jutted his chin. "Friends are good. But I think more would be..." Caleb's eyes glittered for a moment. "All sorts of fun. Wanna try it?" He winked, and without hesitation, ran, laughing.
Coat and all.

More than friends, that sentence ran through his head repeatedly, filling his mind with possibilities and thoughts of the future. What exactly was this little fling of theirs going to turn into? Could it turn into anything? Since they were both guys, there was no telling whether this supposed thing that they had would ever work out. It felt strange, the feeling inside his heart, for the first time in years, he felt truly alive. No matter how many zoid battles he was in, no matter how people he gunned down, no matter how many times he came to the edge of being shot down, he felt more alive than ever before. Could this just be the endorphins in his brain firing off every time he locked lips with Caleb or was it truly love that made him feel this way?
Dmitri let out a slight grin, almost impossible to read unless someone who was accustomed to Dmitri noticed. His mouth twisted up slightly and then something inaudible escaped from his soft cherry colored lips, slightly pink from the constant kissing that him and Caleb had just done.
"Love...is good." That's what he said, only those who could read lips or those who were physically close to him could actually understand what he said. Ah, it seemed that the boy made off with his coat, would he chase him for it? No, he would see him again tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that, he wasn't going anywhere.
~Beep beep, beep beep~ Pulling out the black cell phone, his face suddenly gotten serious, another mission it seemed. Walking briskly in the opposite direction that Caleb had gone, he began to daydream...something he never did...at least when the daydream was about a specific person. Finish the job and come home to...his...special friend. It seemed as though they both stole something from one another. Dmitri stole a kiss and Caleb stole his heart, they were both thieves. The notorious thieves of love, destined to meet again...
