Attack of the unknown

Brenner's Zaber Fang could be seen running along a narrow ledge, overlooking the large valley below him. Grass coated the entire area he was in, it had been a while since he was in an area like this. His Zaber Fang roared out happily as the sun shone brightly on the ground.
" Yeah I know, it's great out isn't Zaber!" he yelled out as the cockpit opened up as they sped along. He looked out at a large lake which Zaber keenly ran up to.
" This feels weird......Zaber.. be cautious, I think something is here.." he said cautiously.

Dmitri was having a rather odd day. It seemed he had a contract to fulfill after all, he did have to get the bills paid. His job was to simply defeat a pilot named Brenner Sanosuke. After suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of Brenner, the client wanted revenge, but since he had been bested last time, it seemed like a very good idea to hire a professional to do it for him. So there he was, lying in waiting, soaring in the sky, looking for his prey.

It was said that he'd be entering the area soon, in a Zaber Fang of sorts. What kind of equipment it had was a mystery, so all Dmitri could prepare for was to watch out for those mid-range cannons that they're always sporting and not to get in too close. So it seemed as if he was just going to be relying on his air superiority and his rather large rail cannons. Not to mention he had an ace, the fact that Diplos could operate underwater, but that didn't have to be known so soon.

"Brenner. In the Zaber Fang....fight..." Dmitri said over his communication unit, very brief with his words. "I'm your enemy. Don't ask questions, just fight." The Diploguns flew high overhead the Zaber Fang and the lake, observing the Zaber Fang's equipment carefully before striking.

Brenner looked up, confused at who was speaking to him. Zaberfang closed the hatch and looked up at the Diploguns. Zaberfang braced itself for a fight, eager to defend Brenner.
" Who are you? Why do you want to fight me when I don't even know you?" he said into his comm link. Saber roared out as it looked up and noticed the large rail cannons the Diploguns sported. Brenner took the controls and began circling the lake with ZaberFang, even thought their opponent was an aerial enemy, it was a lower class zoid than their own. Be careful ZaberFang, our opponent isn't just out for a regular fight.
" Even though I have no clue of your objectives, unknown pilot, I'll defeat you myself and uphold the peace in these parts, rogues such as you are not welcome in my book!" he yelled out as he punched in the commands and shot the Zaberfang's cannons at the Diploguns.

"Unknown pilot, peace, rogue? I'm a mercenary. The name is Enigma...now fight!"

Diplos sped forward, zipping through the air above the clouds. The clouds broke apart as the blasts had burst through them. Each shot was just a small ways from actually making contact.

Above the clouds is where he remained for a split second and then in a hell fire of shots, it emerged from a cloud of from the extreme right of the Zaber Fang's view, the twin railcannons flaring, only to dip back up above the clouds once more.

ZaberFang dodged out of the bullets path, using the terrain to its full advantage.
" Well Enigma, I must say your zoid is quite something, I haven't fought a flying one before!" he yelled.
ZaberFang quickly met the blasts with its own poops, before the rail cannon blasts came streaking towards it. It managed to dodge just in time, but looked at the large crater it had left.
Brenner sighed, things were never easy for him, he would have to be very careful. He had ZaberFang shoot upwards again, but he smirked, as he began thinking of a strategy of some sort. He snapped his fingers merely seconds later as he dived into the lake with Zaber, surprised at the depth of it, Zaber touched down to the bottom, looking upward to see what its opponent would do.

Missed. Yet close. But not close enough, though the boy pilot as Diplos roared overhead for another pass at the Zaber Fang. But something odd was occurring, Brenner jumped into the lake, diving right into it.

As cautious as he was about his attacks and strategy, he decided to think about quickly. Running various scenarios and outcomes of the odd tactic that this Brenner kid was coming up with. After a split second of thinking of the Zaber Fang's equipment and taking everything into account, he attacked.

How exactly? He held tight to the controls, pulling for a hard right, increasing thrust as he did so, putting Diplos into a barrel roll, the rail cannons roaring to life as successive shots were fired right at the lake, causing water to splash about and churn the area where the Zaber Fang jumped in at. Something didn't right about him jumping him and Dmitri sure as hell wasn't about to be baited into a trap. So Dmitri pulled back up on the controls, dipping back upwards into the air, causing his zoid to jerk a bit. If he didn't hit the zoid, it sure was going to stir things up for him, no pun intended.

Brenner shook as the multiple rail cannons blasted through the water.
Brenner looked up, looking for some thing that could aid him in this fight. Unfortunately, he did not see much in this case. Brenner pondered as he had ZaberFang leap out of the water.
" Cmon,.... there has to be something here we can do, even if this is a flying enemy.... maybe I can go somewhere it can't follow me!" he thought. He looked around the area for a hole or tunnel of some sort, where he could hold into. Brenner looked down at a large hole, somewhat large, and it could fit ZaberFang, but the question was, was it stable enough? Brenner would have to risk it.
" Alright ZaberFang, into the hole there! We're going in!" he shouted as ZaberFang went into the hole, but with a cannon shot striking its tail, making it roar.

Dmitri flew overhead, watching as Brenner's tactic failed him miserably as he fled away from the lake. Soaring high above the sky in his air zoid gave him one more advantage, the ability to peer down below, to observe all within his range. With that said, the Zaber Fang proceeded to hide within what seemed to be a tunnel of sorts. Tunnels and caves always cut into or through something, leaving nice gaps between the ceiling and floor, with no supports than the rock that makes it up. It seemed as if this Brenner kid was digging himself into a hole, no pun intended once more.

Tunnels. All tunnels have entrances, but that also means they have exits. Destroy an exit and that leaves only the entrance to go out of. Destroy the entrance as well and he's trapped. Then all that would be left would be to collapse the tunnel with some well placed shots.

Diplos flew overhead, flying closer to land, looking for the exit to that said tunnel. And there it was, in plain sight on the hilltop behind the entrance, a couple shots from the rail cannons and it was all closed up with large boulders that fell from above. All that there was left to do was to camp the entrance where the Zaber Fang went in at and blast him to pieces. Diplos dipped back up into the sky, observing the area...looking for that perfect chance.

Brenner stopped as the exit ahead of him collapsed due to Enigma's weapons. Brenner pondered what was now going on, he was trapped, and the enemy zoid was most likely waiting for him at the other end. Brenner fired his weapons at the boulders as he tried clearing a path for him to continue. The boulders fell easily from his cannon fire, but he stayed cautiously, he dared not advance while that zoid was still in the sky stalking him. There were two options he had, he could wait it out here, or try his chances fighting the zoid head on. Its rail cannons were powerful, but surely its ammo was not infinite, it would run out sooner or later.
"hm, maybe that's what I will do then." Brenner said to himself and ZaberFang. He powered up ZaberFang's speed to its fastest without causing damages, and thrusted forward out of the hole with ZaberFang. No doubt the enemy would open fire on him once again, but this time he knew what to do. He switched to his weaker cannons and concentrated fire on the flying enemy while avoiding his weapons doggedly.

There. The Diplos's cameras on its underside picked up movement from down below, it seemed that his friend, Mr. Brenner has broken through the boulder barricade by the very grace of god. Apparently, he had been expecting Dmitri to fire back and waste his ammo so frivolously, but that was not going to happen, not one bit. And he sure wasn't going to move in close to slice the poor Zaber Fang in half either. It was all just too risky. His best bet was use the clouds as cover as he regrouped for a thought, knowing that the Zaber Fang's medium ranged cannons couldn't begin to reach for that kind of distance.

Rather than shooting at the zoid directly, Dmitri had the ingenious idea of destroying the ground before Brenner, causing the Zaber Fang, who was boosting too quickly, to lose its footing and crash. It was a good idea in theory and there Dmitri was, firing away at the ground, only a meter or so where the Zaber Fang was about to step. It seemed that Zaber Fang's boosters were going to be its downfall.

"Step lightly..." he whispered to himself.

Brenner watched as Enigma shot at the ground ahead of him, trying to destroy the terrain. He snickered, easy, a tactician like him wouldn't be fooled like this. ZaberFang merely jumped right before the hole which was made and continued its pursuit of the Diplosguns.
" Nice try, but did you really think a pitfall would stop me? he said. ZaberFang roared out at the Diplosguns, annoyed.
" Come down here and fight, you coward!" ZaberFang roared at the Diplosguns, her language being unintelligible by the pilots of course. ZaberFang needed to get close to this zoid somehow, Brenner was its pilot though, so it would wait for Brenner to make the right maneuver. Brenner looked around for a large hill of some sort or something. Suddenly, he had an idea. He looked to the right, spotting some rather sturdy looking rock pillars. He gunned the boosters towards them and jumped on one of the pillars, giving his zoid better range, although the diplosguns was still a little bit away. using his quick mind he quickly guided ZaberFang's movements up steadily, and eventually reached a height equal to Diplosguns'. With a leap, ZaberFang roared, ready to bring down its claws on the Diplosguns. which was only 20 or so feet away.

Dmitri saw the attack coming from a mile away, rather dodging, he came in at the fastest velocity possible, using the fastest approach physically possible. Maneuvering the rudders in such a way that the wind resistance was cut down by a rather marginal amount which increased the Diplos's dive speed considerably.

Right when the Zaber Fangs claw on its head, the Diplos head shifted directions, the rest of the zoid moved in a fish like motion, similar to agile fish swimming in the ocean. The Zaber Fang's claws scratched the surface of the Diplos's thick armor but in exchange, the tail blades were coming right toward the Zaber Fang's undercarriage. As the Diplos passed by the Zaber Fang, the cockpit opened up and Dmitri threw a track device on to the zoid. The cockpit quickly closed and the Diplos flew off into the sky, high up amongst the clouds, retreating from battle.

As Brenner's zoid landed with a thud he looked around surprised. Apparently his tactical maneuver hadn't done as much damage as he had thought. His opponents zoid was much more powerful than he had anticipated.
" Enigma.....who are you?" he asked himself before ZaberFang began speeding away. Questions swam through his head, who exactly could he be, some hired mercenary or something? And who would want Brenner taken out like this, the whole thing was very suspicious. Brenner would have to ponder it later, the next zoid tournament was not far off and he needed to repair any of ZaberFang's damages, and perhaps buy a new zoid altogether.
