It's official. I have internet here in Austin. I'm going to be here from today up until late on Friday, so I won't be around to mod the site as much as I usually do. In exchange for that, I have been keeping a special journal of all my sandwiches, and I will be posting them daily here in this thread. Post anything you like, I'll only be modifying the first post <3
Monday
Sandwich: BLT Size: Medium Bread: Wheat Origin: Home Bites: 12 |
The journey begins! This was the first sandwich of my trip, something I made at home and brought along to eat on the airplane. It was the standard BLT faire, with toasted bread, hot bacon, cool lettuice and tomatoe, and a double slathering of extra quality mayonaise. Quite the spectacular sandwich, if I may say so myself. BLTs have always been my favorite type of sandwich, and this one was no exception. The fact that it was a bit soggy and cold by the time I ate it was made up for by the fact that I was f**cking HUNGRY when I finally got to it. Five hearts, no contest. PS: You get a hint at my personal sense of style with this one, since I couldn't use my phone camera on the airplane, and had to haul out my laptop and webcam. |
Sandwich: Spicy Chicken Size: Medium Bread: Bun Origin: Popeyes Bites: 9 |
We had a long layover in Houston airport, since every flight going anywhere in Texas gets diverted through Houston first. Major hub, or something like that. Anyways, while I was here, I found m'self a Popeyes, which I don't see that often up in the north. So I bought myself one of their chicken sandwiches, just to see how it was. I have to admit, the fast food in the south is 500% better than that in the north. This sandwich was as big as they actually show on the picture! Quite the shock, considering the tiny *ss burgers you get from the King or that psychotic clown guy. Tastewise, it wasn't as crispy as I imagined it to be, but was indeed spicy. The tomatoes had sogged in a little though, which means they weren't that fresh. Still, the overall taste gives it four hearts without a problem. |
Sandwich: Sausage Sunrise Size: Medium Bread: Pita Origin: Pita Pit Bites: 24 |
Ever gone into a pita restaurant and ordered a breakfast pita, while it's pitch black outside? Do it, it's an amazing experience. The fact that I'm eating breakfast food so late brought back so many memories of childhood french toast night at camp, or pancake dinners at the church. Good times. The pita itself was pretty classy, to say the least. Sausage and cheese and mayo and peppers and home fries and egg and a whole lotta lovin'. The pita itself was a bit dry, but hey, it's a pita. What can you do? Four hearts for being better than good. PS: Pitas are wraps, and wraps are sandwiches, so pitas are therefore sandwiches. Anyways, who's the sandwich expert here, eh? |
TUESDAY
This is not a sandwich. This is a waffle the shape of texas. Tasted like crap, but still awesome nonetheless. |
Sandwich: Spicy Chicken Sandwich Size: Medium Bread: Bun Origin: Wendys Bites: 3 |
Fall back on a classic. The Spicy Chicken Sandwich provided at Wendys, one of the best of the mass-produced fast food sandwiches. Honestly, in my opinion, THE best. I haven't had one of these in a while, since Boston is so self-indulgent and hoi-paloi. No fast food or wallmart, all high-price low-quality mom and pop junk. Oi. That aside, I enjoyed this sandwich quite a bit, though it was over way too fast. I blame it on hunger, since that f**cking waffle didn't fill me up any. |
Sandwich: Questionable Size: Large Bread: Wheat Origin: Freshman BBQ Bites: 19 |
The Freshman BBQ was awesome, but a bit overcrowded. I had to go through the food isle fast, and didn't get much time to stock up on the optionals. This is what I ended up with: a sandwich made out of two pieces of bread, several strings of raw onion, and four slabs of steak piled on top. Pretty hefty and good for an impromptu sandwich, but was quite dry, especially with the Austin weather bearing down on me. It had onions though, so was hard to mess up. |
Sandwich: Whopper Size: Large Bread: Bun Origin: Burger King Bites: 8 |
Another fast food sandwich to cap the day with. Man, I needed it by the time I got back from orientation. It was good through, a classic burger meriting the title of King. The great thing about Burger King is their sandwiches actually look, taste, and are the size of those in the pictures and TV. Try comparing a McDonalds image to an actual sandwich by taste and looks. Four stars for an all around job well done. |
WEDNESDAY
Don't... don't talk to me about today. Literally, I have eaten nothing, and am about to die. I've been browsing sandwich images over my cell phone.

Sandwich: Pizza Size: Small Bread: Pizza Origin: Cici's Bites: 8 |
Today was better than wednesday. I had plenty of food to eat, though no sandwiches. I had cold pizza for breakfast, and they gave us pizza for lunch. What was it for dinner? You guessed it, pizza. Cici's offers the legendary $5 all-you-can-eat pizza buffet. With great power comes great responsibility. I ate so much I almost painted the far wall of the hotel green the night after. Anyways, I wanted to at least eat one sandwich, so I made a pizza sandwich! Pizza, with pizza for bread and pizza for sauce! |
FRIDAY
Sandwich: BLT Size: Huge Bread: Bun Origin: Slammer's Bites: 24 |
Last day of the trip! I had no time to eat except at the airport, before boarding the airplane back home. I figured it would be great to end the trip with a BLT, since I started it with one. Slammer's had a good looking selection, so I ordered it. Man, I thought you couldn't mess up a BLT, but they actually did it. So much bacon I couldn't even fit it into my mouth the first few bites. That, and there was barely any lettuice, and it was arguable whether they used tomatoe or tomatoe juice. It was basically like chewing on the fried butt of a pig. Still, though, that's not that bad a thing to do for lunch. |
Sandwich: Burger Size: Tiny Bread: Bun Origin: Continental Airlines Bites: 1 |
I wasn't expecting to get another sandwich before I made it home, but Continental Airlines was nice enough to offer us a hamburger for the flight back. This thing is even smaller than it looks. I swallowed it like a pill. |
